Reading the classics

We are currently reading Anne of Green Gables!  We have been slowly working our way up in how long we are able to read.  First it started out a couple paragraphs, then a page, then a couple pages, now we can do about 6 pages! Hopefully soon we will be able to read a whole chapter!

Every Friday

Show share label_edited-1

Every Friday in Preschool your child can bring a "show share" They tell their friends about it and then walk it around the circle to show.  This is THE big thing on Friday's! Please send something small that can sit at their hook and not be a huge distraction.  Some recommendations are: A book, A picture, A small toy.  If you accidentally walk out the door without something, it is SO easy to find something just sitting in your car! They are willing to share anything and it is exciting for them no matter what it is.  Anything that is breathing  or can bite please talk to Miss Brianna first :)

Monthly fire drill

fire drill_edited-1

Each month we perform a fire drill. We just completed one this past Friday (Sept 28)  The kids have gotten really good at walking outside cool, calm, and collected.  EVEN Cambree! who is scared of any loud noises. We always talk about how brave we were once we are back in the building :)

Kaden's focus face

One thing I just LOVE about Kaden H is how serious his face is when he is really focusing.  It is especially adorable catching him in the moments when his tongue is sticking out :P

SCHOOL CLOSED

NO school October 11-15 Thursday-Monday UEA

School Uniforms

Just a reminder, school uniforms officially start on Monday October 1st.  We are so excited about this big change for our school and have enjoyed the good response.  Plus the kids look SO cute!

You may wonder about the extra change of clothes we keep here at the school.  We are NOT going to require that it be a uniform.  We understand that it would be crazy to keep a brand new uniform sitting at the school that may never be needed.  If you have already replaced your child's spare clothes with a uniform just swap it out with some regular clothes.

I bet you wonder...SO here's some of the things we do during the day!

collin flower_edited-1

Collin doing the flower arranging.  With this work the child chooses a vase and 1 to 3 flowers to arrange.  They get water for the vase, trim the stems of the flowers and beautifully arrange them.  They then choose a doily and find a spot in class to place their arrangement!  See the outside of our classroom door to sign up for bringing flowers.  Carnations work great, they last long and they are cheap!

Cultural Topics

see what we are studying2_edited-1

Geography

First we talked about our earth and what it is made of (Land, Air, and water)  On the globe we pointed out the land and water and then we talked about animals that live on land and animals that live in the water.

Then we started learning about hemispheres and continents.  They are doing REALLY good at singing our continent song, if you want to know the tune to get it started just ask Miss Brianna and you can hear them sing it! Prepare to be grinning from ear to ear if they will perform for you :) It was so cute just today (9/26) When I pointed to Antartica and asked its's name and Kaden H raised his hand with such a surety in his answer said "that is Nortica Nortica"

We are now starting to learn about Australia, mostly we will study the animals from Australia but we also have pictures of the city and culture to look at.Australia2_edited-1

 Zoology

We are studying the Kangaroo to go with our Australia unit.  Each week we study a different part of the kangaroo.  If your child brings home a colored picture point to the pouch and ask them what it is and what goes inside.  They think it's fun that the baby kangaroo's are named Joey's

Botany

Being so close to October we have started our Pumpkin unit.  Each week we will learn about the parts of a pumpkin and the best part of all will be when we cut a pumpkin open and clean the seeds out to cook and eat!

And now it's time to start our day!

Every day around 10:30 we come to the line to "start our day" We start by doing the calendar where we find out what day it is and what day of the month it is.

Next a meteorologist is chosen to check the weather and report it to the class, they then post the weather on our board.

 Summer A

A pledge leader is chosen and after getting the flag asks the class to "Please rise"  They hold out their right hands and we sing a song to place our right hands on our heart and our left hands behind our back. (It's adorable when they hold their hand on their neck or tummy, not quite sure where their heart is :) ) The pledge leader then says "Please repeat the pledge" After saying the pledge we also sing the National Anthem, now this IS the best part.  Sophie belts it out so loud, and sweet Danica sings in her high pitch opera voice.  All sorts of new words are invented as they are "trying" to sing the anthem and it is one of the cutest things ever!
